Marvel's Agent Carter TV show has "really good" script, says ABC boss

Marvel's Agent Carter TV show is under consideration for a series pick-up, ABC boss Paul Lee has confirmed.

Lee described the script - written by Captain America: The Winter Soldier team Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley - as "really good".

"That certainly has a chance to be on the network," he said at the TCA press tour.

ABC Studios is also developing online only series - including Daredevil and Iron Fist -with Netflix.

Lee described the Netflix projects as "super-fan shows" as opposed to the "big, broad" series on ABC.

"We think it's a great balance, and the ABC Studios side of it are really enjoying it, as are Marvel," he said.

Hayley Atwell - who plays Peggy Carter in Marvel's movies - is reported to have signed up to reprise her role for the small screen.

Atwell previously told Digital Spy that she would be eager to star in the TV show and "show different sides of Peggy".

Sherlock series 3 breaks DVD pre-order record

Friday, January 10, 2014

Sherlock's third series has broken DVD pre-order records.

The popular BBC drama, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, broke the record for the most customer pre-orders for a programme yet to finish broadcasting.

In addition, the boxset of Sherlock series 1 and 2 took a place in the top ten best-sellers of 2013 in the TV titles chart, according to data from BBC Worldwide.

The news follows Sherlock writer Steven Moffat's revelation that he and co-creator Mark Gatiss have already begun preparations for series 4 and 5 of the show after the third series concludes this Sunday (January 12).

The data reveals that the UK's best-selling TV title on DVD in 2013 was Top Gear: The Perfect Road Trip, which features presenters Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond driving across Europe.

Doctor Who's 50th anniversary episode, 'The Day of the Doctor', also performed well, achieving the biggest ever week one sales for a Doctor Who title.

Sherlock series 4: We'll make it as quickly as we can, says Moffat

Sherlock will return for a fourth series "as quickly" as possible, co-creator Steven Moffat has insisted.

A fourth and fifth series of the hit detective show have been planned, Moffat revealed last night (January 8) at a BAFTA screening of third series finale 'His Last Vow'.

"Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman] are apparently in movies!" quipped the writer. "So we've got to schedule around them, but we'll get them made as quickly as we can."

Series producer Sue Vertue added: "We're working on it - it's dates."

Sherlock premiered its third series on BBC One on New Year's Day, following a two-year hiatus.

"We couldn't get together before then," said Vertue. "We did worry that [in] two years, you might forget about us, but clearly not!"

Moffat also suggested that the hiatus may have contributed to Sherlock's recent ratings success.

"Sherlock started very well, the second series did better than the first and now the third is doing better than the second," he said. "It shows the benefits of starvation - put things on less often!"

'His Last Vow' airs on BBC One on Sunday, January 12 at 8.30pm in the UK. The third series will debut on BBC America the following Sunday (January 19) in the US.

Doctor Who series 9 to air in 2015, says Steven Moffat

Steven Moffat has stated that a ninth series of Doctor Who will air next year.

Like the show's upcoming eighth series, the 2015 episodes will air as a single uninterrupted run, Moffat told Doctor Who Magazine.

"We're not going to do splits [in series eight], and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that - so it will be the traditional form," said the sci-fi drama's head writer.

Doctor Who's eighth series - the first to star Peter Capaldi as the Doctor - is expected to air on BBC One from August.

Filming on the new episodes began this week, with a first-look image of Capaldi on-set with co-star Jenna Coleman (Clara) unveiled on Tuesday (January 7).

The first two instalments will be helmed by Sightseers director Ben Wheatley.

Doctor Who Magazine issue 469 is out now.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - First look at Evan Peters as Quicksilver

The latest batch of stills from the upcoming 20th Century Fox movie have also offered a better look at Omar Sy as Bishop.

American Horror Story star Peters will play the speedster Quicksilver in Bryan Singer's movie.

Due to a quirk of the character's origins, he will also appear in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron, portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Quicksilver is shown in the image alongside Michael Fassbender's Magneto (the character's father in the comics), James McAvoy's Charles Xavier and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

Bishop is a time travelling mutant from the future. X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released in the UK on May 22 and in the US on May 23.
