Doctor Who: Series 11 to revisit US civil rights movement

New Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall is keen to make the show as educational as it is entertaining – just as it set out to be in the 1960s.

With that in mind he has embarked on a mission for the Doctor’s new friends Ryan and Yasmin to be transported back in time to witness historical events that are particularly relevant to their own ethnic backgrounds.

The teens, played by former Hollyoaks stars Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill, have already filmed with Doctor Jodie Whittaker in Cape Town, South Africa which doubled as 1950s America.

In the plot the Time Lord comes face to face with American civil rights activist Rosa Parks, who in 1955 famously refused to give up her seat on the bus for a white passenger, sparking the beginning of the end for segregation.

Thanks to the TARDIS, the time travellers will witness Alabama bus driver James F Blake telling Rosa to give up her seat, and her brave refusal.

And that’s not all.

The production is now heading off to India, where the gang will find out more about the country’s past and perhaps Yasmin’s own family heritage.

One source said: “The Doctor has all of space and time to explore so it’ll be fascinating to see the gang from 2018 having a good rummage around in big, important events which have changed the course of history.”

When it launched in 1963, Doctor Who was intended by creator Sydney Newman to be an educational series for children.

During the William Hartnell years, viewers learned about Marco Polo, the Aztecs, the crusades, the French Revolution and the Romans, but the practice ended in Patrick Troughton’s era.

Previous foreign filming locations on Doctor Who included Paris, Amsterdam and Lanzarote for the original series.

Since the reboot the various Doctors have visited New York, Rome, Dubai and Fuerteventura while Paul McGann’s TV movie was shot in and around Vancouver.

The next series of 10 episodes, which hits BBC1 in the autumn, will see three stories set in the future, three in the past, and the rest in the present day.

Doctor Who Series 11: Filming Updates

Hey guys! 

So the TARDIS has landed and filming has picked up in Sheffield once again.

This time they have been filming in Park Hill

They have also been filming on Penarth, Wales but there are no pictures from them filming there.

They are now back in Cardiff

Doctor Who Series 11: What We Know So Far - Part 1

Hey guys! So i'm going to go through everything we know about Series 11 So Far.

So we have a few major changes for this upcoming Series.

First of which was the announcement of Steven Moffat and Peter Capaldi leaving following the 2017 Christmas Special. 

It was announced that Chris Chibnall, best known currently for creating 3 series of Broadchurch.

Naturally, as Peter Capaldi announced he was leaving Doctor Who, a replacement needed to be found.

On the 16th July 2017, Jodie Whittaker was announced as the 13th incarnation of The Doctor. She has prviously starred in St Trinian's films, Broadchurch and BBC's 2017 drama Trust Me.

It was also announced that Pearl Mackie would not be returning in Series 11 as Bill Potts, so a new companion(s) had to be found.

On the 22nd october 2017, Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole were cast as Graham, Yasmin and Ryan.

Filming for Series 11 began in November 2017 and the 13th Doctor's outfit was announced at the same time.

So new outfit and a new look for the TARDIS also, gone is the deep blue of the exterior and the pull to Open sign is now dark with white writing. 

The interior however remains to be seen. On New Years Eve 2017, Doctor Who's Official twitter page and YouTube posted a video of the deconstruction of the current TARDIS interior, this is the first major change to the TARDIS interior since Series 7 part 2. So we shall have to wait and see.

It has also been announced that we are only getting 10 episodes this year and they will all be 50 minutes long.

Now if you haven't seen the Christmas special please stop reading now!

Now we know when The Doctor regenerated at the end of the Christmas Special "Twice Upon a Time" The TARDIS was blowing up and sparks flying everywhere and then The Doctor was booted out of the TARDIS in the middle of space and can be seen slowly falling to earth.

So, following this we know that The Doctor will start the Series TARDIS-less.

Filming has been taking place in Sheffield, Newport (Wales) and Cape Town South Africa so far.

Doctor Who Series 11 is due to air in the Autumn, although and August start is being rumoured, so maybe late summer then?

No titles or writers have been announced so far, but i'm sure we will find out soon.
