Doctor Who casts Emmerdale's Samuel Anderson as new recurring character

Monday, February 24, 2014

Samuel Anderson has joined the cast of Doctor Who.

The Emmerdale actor will play a recurring character in the upcoming eighth series, which introduces Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor.

Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher who works alongside Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) at Coal Hill School.

The actor said of joining the show: "I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started

"It's a quintessential part of British culture and I can't believe I'm part of it. It's an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can't wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!"

Writer and producer Steven Moffat added: "For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it's the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald.

"And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi's first series of Doctor Who!"

It has also been announced that Robert Goodman (Game of Thrones), Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch) and Pippa Bennett-Warner (Death in Paradise) will guest star in the upcoming series.

Anderson, who played policeman Ross Kirk in Emmerdale from 2007 to 2009, originate the role of Crowther in Alan Bennett's The History Boys and has also appeared in Gavin & Stacey.

Doctor Who's eighth series is shooting in Cardiff and will debut on BBC One in late 2014.

10 teasers for Doctor Who's 'Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS'

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

When the TARDIS is pulled aboard a junk ship as "the salvage of a lifetime", the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) end up separated, with the Time Lord's young companion lost in the bowels of the ship...

To save the girl and his craft, the Doctor and the junking crew - two men and their robot co-worker - will have to travel to the very heart of the TARDIS. But all manner of secrets - and all kinds of terrors - lurk within...

1. This ain't no bluff - you *will* see the heart of the TARDIS.

2. "That's properly bonkers!"

3. Expect many nods to the past - all the way back to 'An Unearthly Child'.

4. "The TARDIS will get huffy if you mess."

5. It's a timey-wimey one this week - the plot twists and turns almost as much as the TARDIS interior.

6. "I'd explain if I had some charts and a board pen."

7. The Doctor and Clara take a leap of faith...

8. "Don't get into a spaceship with a madman!"

9. Some people are an open book - some people are most definitely not.

10. "I think I'm more scared of you right now than anything else on that TARDIS."

Doctor Who continues on BBC One on Saturday (April 27) at 6.30pm

Freema Agyeman Amazed at USA Doctor Who Popularity!

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Freema Agyeman has expressed pride at her place in Doctor Who history.

The actress played The Doctor's companion Martha Jones in Doctor Who and Torchwood, but is now working in the US on The Carrie Diaries.

Speaking to Assignment X, Agyeman admitted that she has been amazed by how popular Doctor Who has become in the US.

"I am so overwhelmed and so honoured and pleased," Agyeman said of the show's popularity. "I walk down the street here and there are Doctor Who fans coming up to me, and I can't believe it."

She went on to say: "I can't believe how it has just exploded over here. When I was doing the show, we didn't get to come over to America and do any of the promotion.

"The new lot [of Doctor Who actors] did, but my agent said, 'Don't worry, whatever happens with them, it kind of ripples outwards and the whole family reaps the benefit of that', so it's been great for my career."

Agyeman recently ruled out playing Martha Jones again in Doctor Who's 50th anniversary, but said she might take part in promotional events.

The BBC also recently announced that 9th Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston will also not appear in the anniversary episode.

Doctor Who's anniversary celebration will include current Doctor Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, past stars David Tennant and Billie Piper and classic villains the Zygons.

What's next for Freema?

Well Freema Agyeman ruled out a return in Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary special. So now is the question, what is next for the woman we have come to know as 'Martha Jones'.

After leaving Doctor Who, Freema went on to star in Law & Order: UK. She starred in the show for 6 series before deciding not to return for the 7th.

This decision was partially made as she is currently trying to crack the US by starring in The Carrie Diaries.

The Carrie Diaries is an american prequel series to Sex & The City, (based on the book series The Carrie Diaries and Summer & The City), in which Freema plays Larissa Laughlin. It airs on the CW channel in the US and has not yet began to air in the UK as we know. The first series is coming to a close in America tonight, so fans of Freema and the show will have to wait and see whether it is picked up for a second season. The shows executive producer seems hopeful all the same. As for when the series arrives here, a date is not yet known.

Freema is also starring in a CBeebies show called Old Jacks Boat, she play a character called Shelley. It just so happens that she stars alongside fellow Doctor Who star Bernard Cribbins.

So thats what is in store for Freema this year. But we whovians should keep our fingers crossed that she will return in the future!
