The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot to get DVD release

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot is to be released on DVD.

The comedy spoof, which was written and directed by Peter Davison, is yet to have its release date confirmed.

The half-hour one-off starred Davison alongside 'classic' Doctors Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, as they embarked on a quest to appear in the 50th anniversary special.

According to doctorwhonews.net, Baker revealed the release at the Doctor Who Appreciation Society convention Myth Makers at the weekend.

Davison's passion project started life as a "germ of an idea", but it ultimately secured proper BBC backing thanks to showrunner Steven Moffat, who played the self-confessed "villain" in the comedy.

Doctor Who's eighth series - Peter Capaldi's first as the Doctor - will air on BBC One in August.

Karen Gillan's new Series 'Selfie' is picked up by ABC

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

ABC picked up the Instagram-worthy pilot

“Selfie” was 2013′s Oxford Dictionaries word of the year. It was the subject of studies about self-image, introspective essays and head-lice scares. It’s the title of a hit song. And now — because none of that was enough — it’s going to be a TV show.

Deadline reports that ABC has picked up the pilot for the comedy Selfie, which is, improbably enough, based on My Fair Lady. Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame stars as Eliza Dooley, an Internet-famous selfie star who realizes that her zillions of followers don’t mean she has any actual friends. John Cho co-stars as the marketer she hires to help make her seem less self(ie)-centered so that she can make friends offline.

Apparently, there will be a plot line about Candy Crush. No word yet whether she’ll have to learn how to properly pronounce the emoji-sentence “raindrop-umbrella-Spanish flag-autumn leaf-autumn leaf-airplane.”

Broadchurch series 2 casts Torchwood's Eve Myles, Marianne Jean-Baptiste

ITV has announced new castings for Broadchurch's second series.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D'Arcy, Eve Myles and Phoebe Waller-Bridge have joined the cast of the crime drama.

orchwood and Frankie star Eve Myles will play a central role in the new series, along with Bad Education's Waller-Bridge. Details of the characters are currently being kept under wraps.

Creator and writer Chris Chibnall said: "As if we didn't have enough fabulous actresses, it's a thrill to be joined by Wales's finest, Eve Myles. Having worked together on Torchwood, it's a joy to be able to welcome her to Broadchurch.

"And anyone who's seen Phoebe Waller-Bridge perform knows she's already on the way to being a superstar. We're lucky to have them both on board".

Oscar and BAFTA-nominated Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies, Without a Trace) will play a leading role in the series.

"We're over the moon to have wooed Marianne back from Los Angeles to join us in Broadchurch," said Chibnall.

"Marianne is one of Britain's finest actresses, so it's an honour and a coup for us. It's a role written specifically for her and I would've wept for months if she'd turned us down. Luckily she didn't and her character is going to make an indelible impact on the world of Broadchurch."

Producer Jane Featherstone said of D'Arcy: "James's extraordinary recent work in movies such as Cloud Atlas and opposite Anthony Hopkins in Hitchcock makes him another thrilling and important addition to the Broadchurch cast."

David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Arthur Darvill and Charlotte Rampling will also star in the second series.

Chris Chibnall has also confirmed that filming will return to Dorset and North Somerset.

"We're finally able to talk a little about preparations for the next series of Broadchurch and confirm we're coming back to film around West Bay and Clevedon," he said.

"We're all thrilled about returning, especially given how supportive the whole community was last time. And if the community are able to keep our secrets as well as they did last time, we'll be ever so grateful."

Broadchurch won three BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday (May 18) for Best Drama, Leading Actress for Olivia Colman and Supporting Actor for David Bradley.

Doctor Who series 8: Hermione Norris to guest star

Monday, May 12, 2014

Former Spooks star Hermione Norris will guest star in Doctor Who.

The BBC has confirmed that Norris will feature in series eight of Doctor Who in an episode that is set in Lanzarote and written by Wallander's Peter Harness
.

Norris is perhaps best known for portraying MI5 agent Ros Myers in the spy drama Spooks, and has had other memorable parts in Wire in the Blood and Cold Feet.

Norris said of appearing in Doctor Who: "It's exciting to be part of such an iconic show, and one that my kids can watch!"

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat added: "It's a testament to the quality of Peter Harness's intense and emotional script, that we've been able to attract an actress of the brilliance of Hermione Norris.

"And for the first time since 1984, the Doctor Who production team is heading to Lanzarote. The Doctor is returning to the scene of an old adventure - but there have been sinister changes since his last visit."

The last Doctor Who story set in Lanzarote was 'Planet of Fire', which saw the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) take on his arch-nemesis The Master (Anthony Ainley).

Ellis George, Tony Osoba (Revolver) and Phil Nice (Hebburn) will also appear in this new instalment.

Norris joins Tom Riley and Ben Miller as high-profile guest stars for Peter Capaldi's first series as The Doctor.

Keeley Hawes will also be portraying the villainous Ms Delphox in an upcoming episode.

Jamie Mathieson has confirmed that he will be writing a series eight episode as well.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US in the autumn.

David Tennant and Olivia Colman will both return to Broadchurch for series two, it has been announced.

Jodie Whittaker (Beth Latimer), Andrew Buchan (Mark Latimer) and Arthur Darvill (Rev. Paul Coates) are also confirmed for the next run.

Tennant (DI Alec Hardy) previously signed up to star in Gracepoint - a US remake of Broadchurch - calling into question his continued participation with the original show.

However, it has now been confirmed that the Scottish actor will appear concurrently in both the UK and US versions of the series.

"We're delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we're remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops," said ITV's director of drama, Steve November.

Broadchurch will resume filming in Dorset soon, with the remainder of series two's cast to be announced in the near future.
