Doctor Who's David Tennant is teaming up with Lena Dunham for her remake of Camping

Sunday, March 18, 2018

Doctor Who's David Tennant will collaborate with Lena Dunham for his next major TV series.

Tennant has been cast in a leading role in Dunham and Girls collaborator Jenni Konner's remake of the British comedy series Camping, according to TheWrap.

Jennifer Garner previously signed on to star in Camping as housewife Kathryn Siddell-Bauers, who organises a weekend excursion into nature to celebrate her husband Walt's (Tennant) 45th birthday.

However, the trip goes south when Kathryn's sister and judgy best friend bring along a free-spirited wild child. Before the weekend is over, a crime will have taken place and a marriage will have been tested.

This is the latest of a few US roles for Tennant, who most recently made a brief re-appearance as the mind-controlling super-villain Kilgrave in the second season of Netflix's Jessica Jones.

Tennant also currently voices Scrooge McDuck in Disney's animated reboot of the DuckTales series, and is set for a co-starring role with Michael Sheen and Jon Hamm in Amazon Prime and BBC Two's adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's beloved novel Good Omens.

Camping will be Lena Dunham and writing partner Jenni Konner's comeback to US premium channel HBO, after wrapping their influential dramedy Girls last year.

The original Camping, which was written by and starred Julia Davis, aired on Sky Atlantic in the UK in the spring of 2016. Its US adaptation will comprise eight episodes.

An HBO air date for Camping in the US hasn't been announced yet. No UK broadcast is attached at this stage either.

Broadchurch series 2 casts Torchwood's Eve Myles, Marianne Jean-Baptiste

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

ITV has announced new castings for Broadchurch's second series.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D'Arcy, Eve Myles and Phoebe Waller-Bridge have joined the cast of the crime drama.

orchwood and Frankie star Eve Myles will play a central role in the new series, along with Bad Education's Waller-Bridge. Details of the characters are currently being kept under wraps.

Creator and writer Chris Chibnall said: "As if we didn't have enough fabulous actresses, it's a thrill to be joined by Wales's finest, Eve Myles. Having worked together on Torchwood, it's a joy to be able to welcome her to Broadchurch.

"And anyone who's seen Phoebe Waller-Bridge perform knows she's already on the way to being a superstar. We're lucky to have them both on board".

Oscar and BAFTA-nominated Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies, Without a Trace) will play a leading role in the series.

"We're over the moon to have wooed Marianne back from Los Angeles to join us in Broadchurch," said Chibnall.

"Marianne is one of Britain's finest actresses, so it's an honour and a coup for us. It's a role written specifically for her and I would've wept for months if she'd turned us down. Luckily she didn't and her character is going to make an indelible impact on the world of Broadchurch."

Producer Jane Featherstone said of D'Arcy: "James's extraordinary recent work in movies such as Cloud Atlas and opposite Anthony Hopkins in Hitchcock makes him another thrilling and important addition to the Broadchurch cast."

David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Arthur Darvill and Charlotte Rampling will also star in the second series.

Chris Chibnall has also confirmed that filming will return to Dorset and North Somerset.

"We're finally able to talk a little about preparations for the next series of Broadchurch and confirm we're coming back to film around West Bay and Clevedon," he said.

"We're all thrilled about returning, especially given how supportive the whole community was last time. And if the community are able to keep our secrets as well as they did last time, we'll be ever so grateful."

Broadchurch won three BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday (May 18) for Best Drama, Leading Actress for Olivia Colman and Supporting Actor for David Bradley.

Broadchurch series 2 cast confirmed: David Tennant returning

Monday, May 12, 2014

David Tennant and Olivia Colman will both return to Broadchurch for series two, it has been announced.

Jodie Whittaker (Beth Latimer), Andrew Buchan (Mark Latimer) and Arthur Darvill (Rev. Paul Coates) are also confirmed for the next run.

Tennant (DI Alec Hardy) previously signed up to star in Gracepoint - a US remake of Broadchurch - calling into question his continued participation with the original show.

However, it has now been confirmed that the Scottish actor will appear concurrently in both the UK and US versions of the series.

"We're delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we're remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops," said ITV's director of drama, Steve November.

"Suffice to say Chris [Chibnall] has delivered as always and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series."

Broadchurch will resume filming in Dorset soon, with the remainder of series two's cast to be announced in the near future.

Broadchurch to return for 2nd Series!

Monday, April 22, 2013

For those of you who have been watching Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. You will be happy to know it is to return for a 2nd Series. The show also starred Jodie Whittaker and Doctor Who's Arthur Darvill to name but a few.

ITV released the following press release:

Broadchurch will return for a second series, ITV confirmed tonight (Monday 22 April). The successful series, produced by Kudos Film and Television and Imaginary Friends Productions, written and created by Chris Chibnall, starring a strong ensemble cast lead by David Tennant and Olivia Colman has gripped the nation with viewers intrigued by the circumstances surrounding the death of young Danny Latimer.

The new series will go into production next year. As with the first series, details of the story, and which characters will return, are currently being kept tightly under wraps. Since launching on 4 March, the drama has never been far from everyday conversation, becoming compelling viewing as the audience have dissected and analysed the cleverly crafted scripts, which implicated many of the locals living in the small picturesque seaside Dorset community of Broadchurch, home to the Latimer family.

The first episode rating of 9.1 million (31% audience share) saw Broadchurch achieve the highest weekday launch of a new drama across all broadcasters since ITV’s Whitechapel in January 2009. More than 9 million viewers have watched the popular drama unfold. Only two other dramas on television launching during weekday have rated higher since 2002, both from ITV, Life Begins and Doc Martin. The compelling series, produced by Kudos Film and Television, which also starred, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Vicky McClure, Arthur Darvill, David Bradley, Pauline Quirke, Jonathan Bailey, Carolyn Pickles and Will Mellor, had bookmakers running odds on who they thought was responsible for Danny’s death.

Commissioned for ITV by Acting Director of Drama Commissioning, Steve November, Broadchurch is executive produced by Chris Chibnall, and Kudos Film and Television’s Jane Featherstone. The series was produced by Richard Stokes and the lead director was James Strong. Euros Lyn also directed three episodes of the series. “We’re delighted to be commissioning a second series of Broadchurch,” said ITV’s Director of Television, Peter Fincham. “From the moment the murder scene was discovered, viewers became gripped by the series, and we’ve been genuinely thrilled by the audience response.

David and Olivia’s performances and Chris’s cleverly crafted scripts have created a truly compelling drama.” Creator and writer Chris Chibnall said: "The whole Broadchurch team has been delighted and properly gobsmacked by the response from ITV viewers. When I first talked to Peter Fincham and Laura Mackie, ITV’s Director of Drama about Broadchurch, I mentioned that if people liked it, there was another very different story we could tell afterwards. I'm really thrilled we're going to tell that story too."

Executive producer, Jane Featherstone for Kudos Film and Television commented: “It’s such a privilege for Kudos to be able to work with Chris and ITV to bring the next chapter of Broadchurch to our screens. And although we’re giving nothing away right now, I can tell you it’s going to keep on delivering surprises and scale.”

50th Anniversary Round Up - What we know so far!

Sunday, April 7, 2013

So the 50th Anniversary Special has begun filming. There's alot we know and alot we don't. So where to begin.... Well we know that it will be a TV special and will also air in cinemas and air in 3D. The date set for this is 23rd November 2013, exactly 50 years since it first began! So lets continue with the recap...

WHO's Returning

So here's what has been confirmed. Billie Piper and David Tennant have both been confirmed as returning to the show by the BBC.

Now David was seen at the read-through along side Matt and Jenna (The 11th Doctor & Clara), but we didn't have any pictures of Billie but we figure she more than likely was there.

Now the speculation is whether David will be playing the actual 10th Doctor or the metacrisis doctor who was created at the end of season 4 and left in the parallel world with Rose. Following this is the filming pictures with 10's TARDIS and the Brown pinstripe suit is back, so it is leaning more towards 10 than his metacrisis.

Billie has yet to be seen on set with David, Matt & Jenna, she will probably be on set soon though.

Well apart from the return of Rose and 10, we have another familiar face returning to our screens and it's not a friendly one at that. It's the return of the Zygons.

Now the last time the Zygons graced our screens was in the classic series of Doctor Who, featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor in the story, The Terror of The Zygons. Also David Tennant has admitted that they are his favourite Doctor Who Monster.

WHO's a No Show

The list of people not returning to Doctor Who is slowly growing.

The first people to announce they were not returning were Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. As most of us know by now their characters of Amy Pond and Rory Williams, bowed out the show in September 2012, in the story The Angels Take Manhattan. So it wasn't much of a suprise when they announced they were not returning. IT was also confirmed by Steven Moffat himself. Although it would have been a nice surprise for fans.

Next in the list on non-returnees is John Barrowman. As we all know John Barrowman plays Captain Jack Harkness. Now John has been stating for sometime that he wasn't going to be involved in the 50th, but this announcement came with Billies and Davids, who of course are now in the special. But recently he took to twitter to announce once again that he will not be taking part. Although he has said previously how he would love to return.

Following the absence of previous companions, comes the absence of previous incarnations of the Doctor. Last week Sylvester McCoy known as the 7th Doctor announced he was not returning to the show. But not only did he announce he wasn't returning, he put doubt on the fact that any of the classic doctor would return. He was quoted as saying "The BBC we've heard nothing, though" The "though" hints at the fact that himself and possibly other previous actors who have portrayed the doctor are working with Big Finish on a audio story for the 50th.

Also ruling himself out is our very own 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston. Eccleston has been no stranger to talking about his leave from Doctor Who and any chance of a return. It was speculated for sometime that he was in talks to return and as it appears the talks were true, just not the fact that he was returning. There were rumours that he signed up but then decided to leave but these were dashed by himself and the BBC, saying that in the end after talks he thought it best not to return.

Not much is known about other companions so as soon as more info is announced we will update.

WHO's Guest Starring

So first up we have John Hurt. Now John Hurt has not appeared in Doctor Who before but he was voice of the Great Dragon in Merlin and also was the narrator, so we know he is no stranger to the world of Sci-fi, with other credits including Harry Potter where he played Mr Ollivander. We do not have any information on the character he is portraying yet but i'm sure nearer the time more information will be announced.

As well as John Hurt, we have the lovely Joanna Page guest starring. She is following in the footsteps of James Corden, who she worked with on the TV show Gavin and Stacey. Although by the looks of the filming pictures, the characters that they portray do not exist in the same century. It appears the Page will be playing an Elizabethan character, which many have speculated could be Queen Elizabeth I. As of yet no details are known other than what we have seen.

What else is happening

Well apart from the 50th Anniversary Special/ TV Movie (whatever you want to call it) what else is going on.

Mark Gatiss has written a one-off show called An Adventure in Space and Time. This is about the creating of Doctor Who. Anyone in London would have spotted the Daleks lining up along the Westminster Bridge. So the 1st Doctor/ William Hartnell will be portrayed by David Bradley. It will air on BBC Two later this year.

As previously mentioned by Sylvester McCoy, there will be a Big Finish audio book. It will feature, Tom Baker, Colin Backer, Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davidson, in their incarnations as the The Doctor. It is called The Light At The End. There will be 2 version a Standard Version and a Limited Collectors Edition. It will be released in November 2013. On the Big Finish Website there is a small summary: "November 23rd 1963 proves to be a significant day in the lives of all eight Doctors... It's the day that Bob Dovie's life is ripped apart..."

Thats all for now. If there is anything else you wish me to add then leave me a message.
