Matt Smith on 'Doctor Who' 50th Proms: We're proud to be a part of it

Friday, April 19, 2013

Matt Smith has spoken of his enthusiasm for Doctor Who's return to the BBC Proms.

It was announced yesterday (April 18) that a third visit to the Proms would form part of the sci-fi drama's 50th anniversary celebrations.

"I love the Albert Hall, I love the Proms [and] I love classical music," Smith told BBC News. "I think it's a great thing to see all of Murray [Gold]'s really brilliant score over the years come to life."

Smith continued: "The music adds a whole other level to the emotion, to the drama. This show - more than any really - needs a good, cracking score."

The Doctor Who Prom is to be performed twice, with 'Prom 2' being held on Saturday, July 13 from 7.30pm and 'Prom 3' following the next day (Sunday, July 14) at 10.30am.

Booking for the Proms season opens on May 11, with all performances planned to be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and also recorded for later television broadcast on BBC One.

Doctor Who continues this Saturday (April 20) at 6.45pm on BBC One with the new episode 'Hide'.
