Sherlock continues with 8.8 million on BBC One

Sherlock continued its third series with impressive ratings for BBC One on Sunday, overnight data reveals.

The second episode was down by around 400,000 viewers from New Year's Day, attracting 8.84 million (31.9%) at 8.30pm. However, it was still above the series two launch ratings of 8.75m in 2012.


Earlier, Celebrity Mastermind quizzed 4.52m (18.4%) at 7pm, while Antiques Roadshow interested 5.85m (23.0%) at 7.30pm.

On ITV, Dancing on Ice returned for its final series with 6.23m (25.6%) at 6.15pm, and an added 487k (1.9%) on +1. Its results show was seen by 5.64m (18.6%) at 8.30pm (181k/0.7%). This is down by over a million viewers from last year's launch, which attracted 7.77m viewers.

All Star Family Fortunes entertained 5.44m (21.4%) at 7.45pm (157k/0.6%), while All New It'll Be Alright on the Night appealed to 3.81m (14.0%) at 9pm (327k/1.7%).

BBC Two's Nature's Weirdest Events gathered 2.25m (8.3%) at 8pm. Dan Snow's Operation Grand Canyon was seen by 2.55m (9.3%) at 9pm, followed by a repeat of Charlie Brooker's 2013 Wipe with 952k (5.1%) at 10pm.

On Channel 4, Speed with Guy Martin brought in 1.63m (6.0%) at 8pm (201k/0.7%), while Cameron Diaz film Bad Teacher amused 1.91m (8.0%) at 9pm (548k/3.6%).

Channel 5's Miss Congeniality 2 attracted 1.04m (4.0%) at 6.45pm, while Celebrity Big Brother continued with 2.05m (7.5%) at 9pm (282k/1.5%).
